2004 Bodegas Victoria Dominio de Longaz

Bodegas Victoria is a new collaboration of proprietor Juan Manuel Segura and Miguel Angel de Gregorio, owner/winemaker of Finca Allende in Rioja. This is the inaugural vintage for Dominio de Longaz, an oak-aged blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. For vines just planted in 2002, this wine shows incredible richness and complexity. It stood out in our tasting with importer Enrique Ibanez among a cast of outstanding wines from Spain and France. Robert Parker rated the wine 90 points. We call it a Spanish red wine gem.

Bodegas Victoria Dominio de Longaz is dark ruby-purple in color with an intense nose of cassis, blackberry, bitter chocolate, coffee and spice. It is full-bodied and velvety with firm tannins and rich flavors of blackberries, black cherries and cassis. The wine was aged in new French oak casks for 12 months. It is nicely balanced to enjoy over the next 8-10 years. The finish is long and elegant.
