2006 Claraval Seleccion Especial
Claraval Seleccion Especial from Bodegas y Vinedos del Jalon is an intriguing red wine gem from the Calatayud region of Spain. This 2006 vintage of Claraval received a 91-point rating from Jay Miller of The Wine Advocate and a 92-point score from Stephen Tanzer! Claraval Calatayud is a blend of 50% old-vines Garnacha, 20% Tempranillo, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah. The grapes come from estate vineyards at an altitude of 700 to 1000 meters. The bush-vine Garnacha averages 60 years old, planted on mountainside vineyards of slate and quartzite, resulting in the rich minerality of the wine.
Claraval Seleccion Especial is deep cherry red in color with hints of violet. On the nose is an enticing bouquet of ripe dark fruits, cassis, cocoa and spice. On the palate, the wine is rich and well-structured with flavors of blackberries, black currants, plums, and mulberries. Full-bodied and beautifully balanced with sweet tannins, Claraval leaves a long, silky finish.
Enjoy Claraval Seleccion Especial over the next 7-8 years with roast pork, beef stew, burgers, grilled vegetables and cheeses.
