Martinborough, New Zealand
Palliser Estate Pinot Noir is a red wine gem from the Martinborough region of New Zealand that tells you instantly why it's time to pay attention to New Zealand Pinot Noir! Palliser Wines, a recognized leader in environmental management, is located in Martinborough, in the southeast corner of the North Island of New Zealand. The first Palliser Estate vines were planted in 1984. The winery owns about 90% of its vineyards, with 85 hectares currently under vine. Winemaker Allan Johnson was named New Zealand Winemaker of the Year in 2002. This Pinot has won a Gold Medal in the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
Palliser Estate Pinot Noir was made from a blend of the estate's older Pinot Noir vines and newer plantings of Dijon clones. It is deep garnet red in color with aromas of ripe, concentrated berries and plums and a touch of leather and toasty oak. This is a beautiful Pinot offering soft, full, intensely ripe raspberry and black cherry flavors with medium body and bright acidity in a focused structure. The wine was aged in French oak casks for 12 months. Its finish is soft and lingering.
Enjoy Palliser Estate Pinot Noir over the next 5-6 years with roast pork, grilled salmon, roast duck, ratatouille and cheeses.
