Tierra de Zamora, Spain
Triton Tinto from Vinas del Cenit is a superb Spanish red from the appellation Vino de la Tierra del Vino de Zamora. It lies just to the northwest of Toro. In this remote region of Zamora, they have cultivated a unique clone of Tempranillo for centuries. This beautiful red comes from ungrafted 100-year-old Tinto de Toro vines grown on the banks of the Duero River in poor, sandy soil. Small hand-harvested clusters of mature grapes were carefully chosen to make this wine. Both Stephen Tanzeer and Dr. Jay Miller of Wine Advocate rated it 91 points, and we consider it a sure wine gem!
Vinas del Cenit Triton is dark ruby red in color with an aromatic nose of blackberry, cassis, vanilla, toast and spice. It is full in body with a rich texture and ripe tannins, offering flavors of sweet dark berries, red fruits, vanilla and spice. The wine was aged in French oak for 17 months. Elegant and well balanced, this wine will age well for 8-10 years. It is long and pleasing with a hint of dark chocolate on the finish.
Enjoy Vinas del Cenit Triton with grilled lamb chops, roast pork, paella and cheeses.
