Domaine de Papolle Bas-Armagnac 20 Ans

    Bas-Armagnac, Gascony, France

Domaine de Papolle Bas-Armagnacs are made exclusively from the distillation of wines made on the estate and have been produced following the traditional ancestral methods. The Armagnacs are distilled once in a continuous Armagnac still, and then aged in Gascony oak barrels in our cellar until bottling. The winemaker composes each eau-de-vie using one or several vintages to design a complex, multifaceted and unique product. Minimum age 20 years. A lovely Bas Armagnac at the prime age of taste. Impressive length in the mouth, with powerful aromatics and a firm character, this 20 years exhibits the pure spirit of the Armagnac.

In the early 14th century Master Vital Dufour, prior Eauze in Gascony, boasted that Armagnac has “40 virtues or efficiencies” to “maintain health and stay in good shape.” This text is dated in 1310 and describes “Aqua Ardente” which would later become known as Armagnac, the oldest eau-de-vie from France.

  • Sarah’s Vineyard Pinot Noir Muns Vineyard 2021

Sarah’s Vineyard Pinot Noir Muns Vineyard 2021

    Santa Cruz Mountains, California

    Wine Enthusiast 92 points!

Sarah’s Vineyard Pinot Noir Muns Vineyard is a beautiful single-vineyard Pinot from the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA of California. Marilyn “Sarah” Otteman purchased 10 acres in south Santa Clara County's Hecker Pass area in 1977. She began the vineyard with an initial planting of seven acres of Chardonnay. The winery itself was founded 1978.

Our yearly Santa Cruz Mountains release of Pinot Noir under our “Appellation Series” has been one of our superstars since its inception. We sourced the fruit in 2021 from the Muns family’s highly- regarded vineyard in the Loma Prieta district of the SCM. Located literally on the San Andreas Fault on a ridge at 2,600 feet of elevation, the property is planted to the three main “Dijon” Pinot Noir clones on primarily clay loam and sandstone soils. It is a unique site that supplies exceptional Pinot Noir fruit. Aged in French oak, 30% new, for 11 months. Only 266 barrels produced.

“Dark plum and thyme aromas make for a subtle but highly polished nose on this single-vineyard expression. A chalky texture surrounds the sip, where rounded and full flavors of baked plum are nuanced in rosewater elements. Powerful but smoothly elegant at once.” — Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast, 92 points!

The 2021 Sarah’s Vineyard Muns Pinot Noir is fragrant and earthy with ripe cherry and spice aromas, which are echoed on the palate. The bright rich fruit is complemented by nutmeg, clove, allspice, and a hint of vanilla with smooth, silky tannins and a long finish. This delightful Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with mushroom risotto or seared salmon.

    Turley Zinfandel Old Vines 2021

    California

    Wine Advocate 92 points!

Turley Zinfandel Old Vines is a precious treat for Zin lovers from one of the true masters of old-vine Zinfandel. Turley Wine Cellars was founded in Napa Valley by Larry Turley in 1993. Because Larry has never met an old vine vineyard he didn’t like, Turley now makes 34 separate wines from 38 different vineyards, some with vines that date back to the late 1800s. All of the vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process.

“As with the Juvenile bottling, the 2022 Zinfandel Old Vines punches above its weight in this vintage. The nose is considerably deeper, fuller and more polished, opening with aromas of crushed plums, wild berry preserves, tobacco leaves and similar autumnal accents to its younger sibling. The palate is light- to medium-bodied, carrying through the polished quality of the nose and melds it with a subtly dusty tannin structure and bright acidity. The finish is straightforward and easy to drink, offering generous layers of fruit, spice and floral notes." Drink 2023-2030.”—Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, 92 points!

  • Walter Hansel Pinot Noir North Slope 2022

Walter Hansel Pinot Noir North Slope 2022

    Russian River Valley, California

    Vinous 92 points!

Walter Hansel Pinot Noir North Slope is a beautiful example of single-vineyard Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Walter Hansel was a lifelong wine enthusiast who had the vision to plant his estate's original 250 vines in 1978. Today, Stephen, Walter's son, has taken up where his father left off, pursuing his vision of producing world-class Burgundian-styled Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, all from the Russian River Valley. Practicing organic.

"We produce five estate vineyard designated pinot noirs and one estate pinot noir from a blend of our grape sites. The North Slope begins four feet from the end of the South Slope and continues to slope to the North. It is 100% French clone 115. The close proximity to the South Slope does not influence these flavors as clone 115 exhibits the most fruit driven flavors and appears more "New World" than French. All pinot noir is stainless steel fermented after a 5-7 day cold soak with punchdowns 3 times daily. Whole clusters are employed in only a few tanks at 5%. Barrels are 60% new Francois Freres and the remainder 1 year old. The wine is aged in barrel for 12 months and settled in tank for 2 months.”-Stephen Hansel

“The 2022 Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard is quite dark and brooding in feel. Black cherry, plum, spice, leather, lavender, game and mocha add to an impression of somber intensity. Give this a year or two to soften. Clone 777 Pinot yields a wine of notable breadth here.”—Vinous 92 points!

    Napa Valley, California

    Wine Spectator 91 points!

"A creamy, forward style, with a core of warmed raspberry and boysenberry preserves infused liberally with mocha and melted licorice. Shows a late flicker of chaparral. This is meant for near-term hedonism. Drink now through 2034.” — JM, Wine Spectator, 91 points!

"Caymus has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe tannins – as approachable in youth as in maturity. Since its founding in 1972, Caymus has become renowned as a consistent leader in the production of Napa Valley Cabernet. Grapes for this wine are farmed in a range of Napa’s sub-appellations – from Coombsville to Calistoga – with fruit from the valley floor creating lushness and the hillsides providing backbone. • Chateau Combel-la-Serre Cahors “Le Pur Fruit du Causse” 2022

Chateau Combel-la-Serre Cahors “Le Pur Fruit du Causse” 2022

    Cahors, France

Chateau Combel-la-Serre Cahors “Le Pur Fruit du Causse” is a beautiful red of 100% Malbec from Cahors in southwest France—the birthplace of Malbec (known locally as Auxerrois.) Julien Ilbert is a young, charismatic vigneron with a fresh perspective on his native Cahors. Vines have been in the Ilbert family for generations, though grapes had always been sold to the local cave coopérative. In 2005, Château Combel-la-Serre was born. 25 hectares of Auxerrois are planted on a diverse amount of terroirs, all within 5 kilometers of the cellar. Though a Cahors wine only needs to be 70% Auxerrois to get the appellation, Julien believes it is the only grape suitable for what he's trying to accomplish. In such he has consciously avoided planting the traditional Negrette and Tannat and completely eschewed the more recent trend of planting Bordeaux varietals.

The fruit for the entry-level Pur comes from seven different Combel sites totalling 8.5 hectares around their home village of Cournou, which lies on the Causse Calcaire, a limestone plateau in Cahors at 320-350 meters in elevation. Planted on clay-limestone soils, the vines are certified-organic (in conversion to biodynamic farming), average 30 years old and are kept to a modest 40 hl/ha yield. The wine is aged on its lees in cement through the winter and bottled unfiltered in the spring. Sulfur throughout vinification and aging is minimal.

Chateau Combel-la-Serre Cahors “Le Pur Fruit du Causse” is medium in body with a dark purple color. It offers complex aromas of ripe plum, blackcurrant and mocha combined with spicy notes. This Malbec reveals ripe tannins supported by a good fruit concentration and layers of sweet spices and vanilla.

Enjoy Chateau Combel-la-Serre Cahors “Le Pur Fruit du Causse” with veal chops, roast duck, creamy pastas and aged cheeses.

Hartford Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel 2022

    Russian River Valley, California

    The Wine Independent 96 points!

Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1994 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford’s appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast.

Proprietors Don and Jenny Hartford tend this 100+-year-old vineyard located on seven acres along Wood Road in the Russian River AVA of Sonoma County. The vineyard is head-pruned and produces low yields of about 1 ton / acre. Most vines produce only several clusters of intensely flavored grapes each year. The Hartford Vineyard has also been farmed using organic and biodynamic practices since 2004. Aged for 10 months in 100% French oak, 42% new. Only 265 cases produced.

"Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2022 Hartford Zinfandel soars with notes of rose oil, star anise, kirsch, and raspberry pie leading to a core of stewed red plums and incense. The medium to full-bodied palate has a refreshing backbone and lightly chewy texture, finishing with lovely purity and a red berry lift. Don and Jennifer Hartford tend this head-trained vineyard in the backyard of their home. Wine Advocate 93 points! Guia Penin 93! Wine Enthusiast 93! Wine Spectator 92!

Pago de Carraovejas Ribera del Duero is a beautiful Spanish red from one of Spain's most highly respected wine regions, Ribera del Duero. Pago de Carraovejas is origin. Starting with its first nine hectares, this project soon became a dream of becoming a benchmark wine cellar in the heart of the Ribera del Duero. It all began over three decades ago, when Pago de Carraovejas was founded in response to a dream by José María Ruiz to create a great wine in one of the areas that had the greatest potential at that time.

“The 2020 Pago de Carraovejas was produced with a blend of 92% Tinto Fino (a.k.a. Tempranillo), 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot. 2020 was a good vintage for them. They harvested earlier (but the wine still has 15% alcohol), all in small boxes and 3,000-kilogram containers, and they are also using 600-liter oak barrels and oak vats for the élevage. It has an expressive nose of ripe berries, sweet spices and some toast and is lush and creamy, with a soft texture. It's powerful in the house style, but there's balance and harmony. They produced some 800,000 bottles.”-Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, 93 points!

Pago de Carraovejas Ribera del Duero has been the flagship wine of this winery for over 30 years. The 2020 vintage was aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. It is long and rich on the finish.

Sophenia Synthesis Malbec is an outstanding red wine gem from Argentina. Finca SOPHENIA is a winery recognized as one of the highest quality wine producers in Argentina. To achieve this goal, its founder Roberto Luka chose Gualtallary, Tupungato, Mendoza, one of the most prestigious regions to produce high quality wines. The wines started to sell worldwide in 2004 and succeeded in reaching more than 25 countries.

  • Chateau Romer Sauternes Grand Cru Classé 2019 750ml

Chateau Romer Sauternes Grand Cru Classé 2019 750ml

    Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

    Falstaff 93 points!

Chateau Romer Sauternes Grand Cru Classé is a delicious dessert wine from the most prestigious region for dessert wines—Sauternes. Founded in the 17th century by the Montalier family, sharing its early history with that of Château Romer du Hayot. In 1855, the estate was named Château Romer and was classified as a second growth. In 1911, 12 acres of the estate was sold to Roger Farges, and this land became the current Château Romer, which stayed in the Farges family for the next century. In 2002, Anne Farges restarted winemaking at Château Romer, with the 2002 vintage the first to reappear under the château's own name. The property has since been taken over by Maison François Janoueix, which takes the greatest care in maintaining this vineyard.

Chateau Romer Sauternes is a blend of 90% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc, and 5% Muscadelle. Only 3.5 ha are currently in production, making just 6,000 bottles annually. Traditional vinification in French oak barrels, followed by aging in barrels for 12 to 18 months. Showing freshness as much as richness, this is a honey-and-lemon flavored wine. While it has weight, the acidity cuts the texture, keeping the richness in balance. For long term aging.

In addition to the classic pairing of Sauternes with foie gras, Chateau Romer Sauternes Grand Cru Classé is great for aperitifs and to finish off meals of white meats, fish, or with pastries. Serve chilled at 51 to 53F.

The goal is to make a fine wine, inextricably linked to the land and our zest, for people of refined taste.

Zidianakis Solidus is a dry white wine from the Cretan variety Vidiano. Vidiano, which until a few years ago was nearing extinction, is now considered one of the signature varieties of the Cretan vineyard. It offers us complex aromas of ripe peach, apricot, bergamot, citrus blossoms and a mild sense of minerality, i.e. a slightly salty sensation with hints of astringency.

The name Solidus comes from the gold coin established by the early Byzantine emperors and was a constant reference point for its great and lasting value; Solidus wine represents for us this constant value.

Enjoy Zidianakis Solidus as a refreshing aperitif wine and with grilled salmon, grilled octopus, roasted chicken and summer salads.

    Gran Famiglia Bianchi Corte 2019

    Uco Valley, Argentina

Vinous 91 points! James Suckling 92 points Wine Spectator 90 points!

Gran Famiglia Bianchi Corte is a beautiful Malbec blend from Argentina’s Uco Valley. The family-owned Bianchi winery is situated in the sub-regions of both the Uco Valley and San Rafael. In the Uco Valley, in Los Chacayes in the northwest of Argentina, the high and deep valleys of the majestic Andes Mountains lend a particular environment to the region’s grapes. Situated along the Tunuyán River, alluvial soils ensure the necessary water needed for the vineyard’s irrigation. It’s a rocky area, too, which gives the wines a mineral character with three-dimensional aromatics. All the vineyards sit between 2700 – 3900 ft above sea level, well above the fog line for long bouts of sunlight, perfect for phenolic ripeness and maturity.

Gran Famiglia Bianchi Corte is a blend of 59% Malbec, 23% Petit Verdot, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Tannat. It is deep in color with purplish hues. On the nose, intense aromas of red berries, plums, and violets. There are also mentholated notes, spices, and quince touches provided by the Merlot. The Petit Verdot adds an exotic touch, as does a note of very ripe red pepper from the Cabernet Sauvignon. There are also mineral notes that are typical of the region, and vanilla notes indicating the wine’s aging in French oak. Great body and structure, with sweet tannins that will continue ripening. Persistent finish. Good aging potential.

“The complex nose presents notes of plum and violets with hints of blackcurrant, balsam and country herbs over aromas from the aging process.” Vinous, 91 points!

“Notes of mulberries, dark plums, chocolate, toasted hazelnuts and baking spices. Full-bodied with fine tannins. Fruity and layered with a rich, flavorful finish." —James Suckling, 92 points!

“Sports a savory package of graphite, loam and tobacco, with ripe cherry and plum chiming in and a note of vanilla weaving in and out.
