La Faviere Saint-Joseph is a beautiful red wine gem of 100% Syrah from Domaine de la Faviere. It comes from old-vines vineyards on granitic soils in the Saint-Joseph appellation of the northern Rhone Valley. Winemakers are Patricia and Thomas Putman.
Domaine de La Favière “La Favière” Saint-Joseph Syrah is sourced from steep, south- and southeast-facing vineyards planted on decomposed granite and gneiss soils at altitudes of 250–350 meters in the northern Rhône. The old-vines grapes are hand-harvested at optimal phenolic ripeness, 100% destemmed, and undergo a 4–5 day cold maceration before a 3-week fermentation with native yeasts at controlled temperatures around 28°C, featuring gentle punch-downs and pump-overs to extract color and structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, followed by 12–14 months of aging in 228L and 400L French oak (15–20% new), with minimal SO₂ and light filtration before bottling to preserve typicity, depth, and mineral freshness.
La Faviere Saint-Joseph offers an enticing nose of blueberries, black pepper and violets. The wine is medium-full in body with silky tannins and moderate acidity. It offers rich black fruits and pepper notes with a long, rewarding finish.
Enjoy La Faviere Saint-Joseph over the next 8-10 years with pulled pork, baby back ribs, lamb stew and smoked Gouda.
