Champagne, France
J Charpentier Champagne Prestige Rosé Brut is a beautiful blend of 60% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier, and 20% Chardonnay from the Crus of Reuil, Breuil, Neuville, Verneuil, and Chatillon sur Marne. Reserve wine from large oak barrels called tuns adds to the base wine which is aged around two and half years on the lees and a further 2.5 years in bottle before release. Dosage 7 g/l.
J. Charpentier has been involved with Champagne in the Marne Valley for five generations in the little town of Villers-Sous Chatillon. After many years as growers, they became winemakers in 1969 with Jacky Charpentier with the current winemaker Jean-Marc taking the reins with the 2004 vintage. All of their wines come from fifteen hectares spread out over 38 parcels that they organically farm and harvest by hand. Pinot Meunier gives fruitiness, while Pinot Noir gives structure and Chardonnay lends a floral freshness. They gently vinify each parcel separately with extended aging on the lees for fine bead and sublime length. The wine takes its bright salmon color by the addition of a small portion of red wine of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The dosage is balanced through relatively high acidity by preventing some of the wines going through malolactic.
Enjoy J Charpentier Champagne Prestige Rosé Brut as the perfect aperitif and with any epicurean meal, including desserts. Cheers!
