Niepoort Ruby Port is a perfect introduction to wonderful world of Port! At the helm is Dirk Niepoort, one of Portugal's most visionary winemakers. The Niepoort family owns 80 HA of vines in the Douro, all farmed organically, incorporating some Biodynamic principles as well. They also have purchased some truly amazing, old vine vineyards in Bairrada, Dao and Vino Verde. Dirk also now has vineyards in the Mosel in Germany, which he vinifies with his two sons. Niepoort Ruby Port is a red blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz and others. The fruit for the ruby is sourced from vineyards in the Cima Corgo region with an average age in excess of 30 years. It is harvested by hand, foot-trodden in lagares prior to fermentation, then aged in large wooden vats at the Niepoort lodges in Gaia.

“At Niepoort we believe that the color of the port should be inspired by the "rubi stone" (instead of black dark colour Ruby). Niepoort Ruby is a fresh, young and fruity (lots of red cherries and red fruits!). An expressive port with great character. Ruby keeps well for several years, although the wine will not improve with age. No decanting is necessary since the wine contains no sediment. Dark red in color with a fresh vibrant aroma of dark fruits which follows through on the palate along with an almost mineral character, a youthful wine with good extract and great balance, offering superb "drinkability".
