Valdespino Manzanilla En Rama Deliciosa Saca 2019 is a beautiful Sherry from Valdespino, a tiny crown jewel of a winery that exists within a much larger wine and spirits company called Grupo Estevez. The goal of the winery is to use all the possible resources of the company to make some of the finest, most distinctive and artisanally-produced Sherries available today. The heart and soul of Valdespino, of course, is its vineyards. They are the only sherry house to make a series of wines from a single vineyard, called Macharnudo Alto. This parcel is considered one of the "grand crus" of Jerez because it is located at the highest altitude and on pure Albariza soils (bright white chalk). The single-vineyard Macharnudo wines are also considered part of the Grandes Pagos de España, an elite group of very special vineyard sites throughout Spain, and Valdespino is the only sherry house with this status.

Manzanilla Deliciosa is made from Palomino Fino grapes and aged in the most important bodega building in Sanlucar called Misericordia which is at the top of the hill in the barrio alto. The solera is also a single-vineyard Manzanilla with fruit coming from Miraflores - the most important pago in the Sanlucar zone. The chief winemaker for Valdespino is Eduardo Ojeda who has a vast knowledge in the history of Jerez and Sherry wines.

"It's very interesting to taste a soon-to-be-bottled Manzanilla alongside the same wine that's been in bottle for one year, as I sampled the NV Manzanilla Deliciosa en Rama that was going to be bottled in the spring of 2019 next to the wine that had been bottled the year before. This felt tremendously young, with even a touch of lemon skin, which I sometimes find in very young biological wines. I tasted this just before bottling, and it was just like drinking wine from the bota. The wine will settle in bottle, and the explosive character I saw will not make it to the shelves. This wine is always from the same botas, so the differences are more a matter of how long the wine has been in bottle. In any case, I loved what I tasted. Drink 2019-2022."-Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate, 92-93 points!
