Vina Zorzal Garnacha is a wonderful value in this varietal from Navarra. Back in 2007, the Sanz brothers decided to go in a different direction than their father and grandfather. While the previous two generations were very successful in the Navarra wine industry with Bodegas Correlana, Xabi, Iñaki, and Mikel opted to make decidedly less international wines and started the celebration of local varieties by launching Viña Zorzal. In less than two decades, the brothers have become the most important producers in Navarra, garnering widespread acclaim for not only their work with Graciano (which put them on the map), but also with the incredible expressions of Garnacha and Garnacha Blanca. The best part of it all is how inexpensive these wines are. The scores are big and each wine is very deserving, but the prices are mind-boggling.

“The varietal 2023 Garnacha was produced with grapes from different villages of Navarra—Corella, Cintruénigo, Fitero and Lerga—so, it's a regional wine from grapes picked early to keep a low pH and fermented with 20% full clusters, then it was bottled early and unoaked. It has a bright ruby color and an expressive varietal nose, berries, flowers and herbs, with contained ripeness, 13.68% alcohol, a pH of 3.48 and 5.4 grams of acidity. It's fruit-driven and fresh, juicy, tasty and with a tender texture, very easy to drink and an incredible bargain. Drink 2024-2028.”—Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate 92 points!

“Simple but vibrant and well made, with crunchy red cherries, white pepper, strawberries, grapefruit and pomegranates. Laid-back and cheerful, with firm tannins, a medium body and a medium-length finish. A well-made Garnacha. Drink now.”—James Suckling 90 points!

Enjoy Vina Zorzal Garnacha over the next 4-5 years as an ideal accompaniment for cured ham, stews, game and meat dishes.
