Donna Laura Alteo Chianti Riserva is a beautiful red wine gem of 100% Sangiovese from this famous appellation of Tuscany. The name Alteo is a combination of the names of owner Lia Tolaini-Banville’s sons, Alessandro and Matteo. The painting is a detail of Bacchus from artist Rik Olsen’s Bramosia painting. Bacchus symbolizes the mischievous nature of her sons, thus a fitting image for Alteo! The story of Donna Laura Wines is a nomadic discovery of heritage and matriarchal devotion as linear as the winding roads that weave through the hillsides and vineyards of Tuscany. The history follows vintner Lia Tolaini Banville from her birthplace in Canada to her ancestral home outside the city of Lucca, where at the age of six on her family’s annual summer holiday, Lia met her Aunt Laura who would become a driving force in her life. The approach to viticulture and winemaking at Donna Laura reflects the nurturing, wholesome environment shaped by these strong women.

Donna Laura Alteo Chianti Riserva is 100% Sangiovese from vineyards on soil of lime and clay, with a considerable presence of stones. Clear ruby red color with clean aromas of wild rose, black currant and sour black cherry. Persistent flavors of red berries with soft tannins and an overall fine structure. Aged for a full year in large barrels with another 6 months in steel and 6 months in bottle. Rich and structured with a long, pleasing finish.
