J.K. Carriere Provocateur is a beautiful organic Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley region of Oregon. We enjoyed a memorable visit with Jim Prosser at his hilltop vineyard in April 2025 and found him a man who does things the right way. Provocateur is from 3 vineyards: St. Dolores Estate, Gemini Vineyard, and Temperance Hill, all sustainably dry-farmed and USDA certified organic.

“The wine shows deep ruby red in glass, and gives off an effusive nose of broad cherry, sweet spice, maybe cinnamon red hots, cranberry and orange. The attack is substantial and saline at that, revealing candied cherry, smoke, jerky and anise. The linear structure feels somehow the final sanding pass on a 70% cocoa chocolate bar.”—Jim Prosser, Owner/winemaker

“A barrel selection of the more approachable wines from the St. Delorce, Temperance Hill, and Gemini vineyards, the 2022 Pinot Noir Provocateur is a stellar value. Medium red, it has a lovely nose, with fresh and spicy aromas of wild brambly raspberries, fresh herbs, roses, forest floor, and just a hint of rustic herbs. Medium-bodied, it has a crunchy, mouthwatering texture and a lovely, juicy finish. it has a very fresh feel throughout and retains a lovely, savory flourish.
