Penedes, Spain
Wine Spectator 89 points!
Can Feixes Blanc Seleccio is a beautiful dry white wine gem from the Penedes region of Spain. The historic Can Feixes estate is situated on gravelly slopes above the 400-meter level in an amphitheater at the tree line near the famous Montserrat pinnacle, which forms Penedes' northern boundary. The farthest Penedes vineyard from the Mediterranean, temperature variation here is more Continental in its extremes, the drier climate more conducive to grape health. The altitude and mountain terrain constitute the tiny viticultural home of the Parellada variety, locally known as Montonec ("grape of the mountain"). Recognized as the region's Grand Cru, Can Feixes sells the majority of its grapes and a large portion of the fermented wines as well.
"This white is fresh and lively, with peach and quince flavors backed by saline minerality. Citrusy acidity gives way to a floral finish. Finely detailed and expressive. Parellada, Macabeo, Xarel-lo, Malvasia and Chardonnay." -TM.October/2018, Wine Spectator, 89 points!
Parellada (locally, Montonec), Macabeo, Chardonnay, and a touch of Malvasia de Sitges. Parellada at its best, from high-altitude, gravelly mountain soils: intense lemon-oil aroma with firm acid structure enhanced by the rare, glyceric Malvasia. Stony and aromatic, reminiscent of France's Chablis or Germany's Rheingau.
Enjoy Can Feixes Blanc Seleccio over the next 3-4 years on the patio with friends or paired with roast chicken, grilled snapper, steamers, Cobb salad and goat cheese.
