Vale dos Vinhedos, Brazil
Casa Valduga Cabernet Sauvignon Terroir is a beautiful red wine gem from Brazil, the sleeping giant of South America! Brazil is the fifth most populous country in the world and has become the fifth largest wine producer in the southern hemisphere (after Argentina, Australia, South Africa and Chile) despite traditionally not being a big wine-drinking country. But Brazil has a thriving middle class and interest in wine has been rapidly growing in the past two decades, boosting wine production aimed primarily at its fast-growing domestic market. Relatively little Brazilian wine has been exported to the US. The history of Brazilian winemaking began in 1875, when northern Italian immigrants settled in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil, and began planting vines. The Valduga family arrived in 1875 and planted vineyards in the Vale dos Vinhedos. Today the winery is run by three Valduga brothers--Erielso, Juarez and Joao--who carry on their family's passion for wine. Casa Valduga has come to be regarded as the best winery in Brazil. This Cabernet Sauvignon Terroir is a great introduction to the Casa Valduga portfolio.
Casa Valduga Cabernet Sauvignon Terroir is deep ruby red in color with full body and medium tannins. It offers an enticing bouquet of mature red fruits and spices and rich flavors of blackberry, cassis, plum and chocolate. Aged for 8 months in French oak barrels followed by 12 months in cellar. Well balanced to enjoy now and over the next 6-8 years, it is long and smooth on the finish.
Enjoy Valduga Cabernet Sauvignon Terroir with filet mignon, rack of lamb, venison, beef empanadas and aged cheeses.
