Description

Malepère, Languedoc-Roussillon, France Chateau de Cointes Clemence is a beautiful red wine gem from the little-known appellation of Malepère in Languedoc-Roussillon. It is the top cuvee of the chateau, a blend of 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Grenache Noir, all sourced from single-vineyard sites. Cointes goes back to 1920 for this family of winemakers located in the Languedoc-Roussillon. It comes from the youngest appellation, Malepère, and benefits from clay and limestone soils. Chateau de Cointes Clemence is a rich, powerful wine with silky tannins and aromas of ripe fruits. It is deep ruby red in color with aromas of red berries, plum, spice and tobacco. Medium-full in body with moderate acidity, this Bordeaux blend plus Grenache offers rich flavors of plums, blackberries, cassis and spice. It was aged for 12 months in oak barrels (1/3 new, 1/3 2nd-use and 1/3 3rd-use) giving the wine a beautiful aromatic complexity. It is nicely balanced to be enjoyed now and over the next 6-8 years. The wine is smooth and long on the finish. Enjoy Chateau de Cointes Clemence with roast duck, veal, ratatouille, and cheeses.
