Description

Beaujolais, France Wine Advocate 93+ points! View from the Cellar 93 points! Daniel Bouland Morgon Bellevue Sable is a gorgeous expression of Gamay from the excellent 2018 vintage in Beaujolais. Daniel Bouland is a great producer of old-fashioned Morgon. From less than 7 hectares of old vines in the Douby, Côte de Py, and Delys, lieux of Morgon, plus small parcels in Chiroubles and Cote de Brouilly, he makes wines that can age 20 years, and are comparable to fine Côte de Nuits Burgundies. His Corcellette Morgon vineyard is 60-75 year-old vines. De Lys (between Corcellette and Ville Morgon) was planted in 1926. In 2014 he acquired another old-vines parcel - Bellevue, on schiste and granite. All his grapes are hand-harvested and vinified with full clusters in order to extract all the organoleptic qualities and bottled unfiltered. “The 2018 Morgon Bellevue Sable comes from younger vines, planted on Viala rootstock in sandy soils—as the "sable" newly added to its label makes clear. Revealing aromas of blackberries, smoked meats, cracked pepper and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and muscular, with powdery structuring tannin, juicy acids and a blockier, more reserved profile than the Chiroubles and Brouilly that preceded it. This will demand a couple of years' patience before it shows all its cards. Drink 2021-2035.”—Wiliiam Kelley, Wine Advocate, 93+ points! “The 2018 Bellevue bottling from Daniel Bouland is also a ripe, but not overly ripe example of the vintage, coming in again at a perfectly civilized 13.5 percent and delivering a beautifully complex bouquet of red and black cherries, a bit of sweet cranberry, vinesmoke, complex soil tones, fresh thyme, a touch of orange peel and overt notes of currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and gorgeously sappy at the core, with excellent soil signature, ripe, well-integrated tannins and outstanding length and grip on the complex and very well-balanced finish. Great juice. (Drink between 2025-2055)”—John Gilman, View from the Cellar, 93 points! Enjoy Daniel Bouland Morgon Bellevue Sable over the next 5-35 years with roast chicken, grilled salmon, roast pork, pasta and Thanksgiving turkey.
