Description

Veneto, Italy David Sterza Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a beautiful red wine gem from the Veneto of Italy. The David Sterza winery is located in the tiny Valpolicella village of Casterna, in the foothills of the Lessini mountain range. The wine estate was established in 1998, but the family has been producing wine through a long tradition handed down from father to son. When the estate was passed into the care of the young David Sterza he sought the professional guidance of his cousin, the renowned wine expert Paolo Mascanzoni and together they set about producing some of the finest wines in the Valpolicella. Amarone is what the Valpolicella is rightly famous for and the David Sterza Amarone Classico is simply one of the best: a powerhouse wine! Monica Larner for Wine Advocate rated the 2010 vintage 93 points, calling it "a full throttle red to enjoy by the fireplace in the dead of winter." David Sterza Amarone is full bodied, intense and above all elegant. Dark ruby red in color with an enticing nose of blackberries, raisins and leather, it is full in body with soft acidity and silky tannins, offering rich flavors of black raspberry, cedar and spice. The wine spent 15 months in French oak barrels. The finish is long, smooth and elegant. Enjoy David Sterza Amarone over the next 12-15 years with osso bucco, roast lamb, lasagna, and aged cheeses.
