Description

Kamptal, Austria Hiedler Gruner Veltliner Loess is a beautiful white wine gem and a great introduction to this signature white varietal of Austria. Gruner Veltliner is the specialty of Ludwig Hiedler, whose Kamptal estate embraces 16 hectares of vineyards planted primarily to Gruner, Riesling and Zweigelt. Soil types include sandy loess and loam, gravel and eroded desert sandstone. The 2008 Hiedler Gruner Veltliner Loess received a rating of 89 points from Wine Spectator. Robert Parker has not yet reviewed the 2008 vintage but the 2007 received a 90-point score. Hiedler Gruner Veltliner Loess is light yellow-green in color. It has a pleasant nose of lime, peony, lentil and white tea. Creamy and balanced with medium body, it is complex on the palate with flavors of yellow plum, apple, apricot and lemon-lime. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and spent some time on the lees. It is drinking beautifully now and will be enjoyable through 2016. The finish is long, zesty and flavorful. Enjoy Hiedler Gruner Veltliner Loess as a delightful spring/summer aperitif wine and with grilled shrimp, baked halibut, lobster, roast chicken and soft cheeses.
