L’Armangia Sopra Berruti Barbera d’Asti is a beautiful expression of the Barbera grape from the appellation of Asti in Piedmont. Outside of the town of Canelli in Asti, Piemonte, lies the estate of Ignazio and Giuliana Giovine known as l’Armangia. This area has become famous for the quality of their Barbera d’Asti and Moscato d’Asti. The vineyards are located on the surrounding hills with SE and SW exposures. The soils are comprised of mostly limestone. Natural fertilizers with grass grown between the vineyard rows keep things as natural as possible. Though organic practicing they are not certified. L’Armangia wines are always estate grown using hand-harvested fruit.
Sopra Berruti Barbera d’Asti is ruby red with tinges of purple. It offers a delightful nose of red berries, cherries, violets and French oak. Medium in body with perfect acidity and soft tannins, it offers intense flavors of cherries, strawberries, almonds and spice. This food-friendly red will drink well for 5-7 years. It is long, ripe and polished on the finish.
Enjoy L’Armangia Sopra Berruti Barbera d’Asti with grilled meats, charcuterie and cheese, soups and venison.
