La Casaccia Barbera del Monferrato Giuanin is a beautiful expression of the Barbera grape from the Monferrato appellation of Piedmont. La Casaccia is a family-operated, certified organic winery located in Cella Monte, Asti, Piedmont. Estate vineyards stretch over 8 Ha, concentrated in the village of Cella Monte, which stands out for its unique volcanic soil and optimal south/south-east exposure. Giovanni Rava and his wife Elena Bassignana acquired an 18th century villa named La Casaccia 20 years ago and gradually restored the main building and the cellar excavated into the local volcanic rock. The vineyard was soon converted to organic farming and is certified organic by CCPB. Margherita and Marcello work with their parents in their joyful family labor of love.
In color, La Casaccia Barbera is ruby red with lilac tones. The wine offers an intense bouquet with scents of ripe red fruits. Well structured, it is round, warm, and intense on the palate balanced with light and pleasant tannins. The finish is long and rich.
“It delivers a balanced package of spice, little red fruits, enlivening acidity and mild tannins. Daniele Cernilli, a world’s authority on Italian wines, points out that the hallmark of Barbera is that acidity is more important and takes precedence over tannins. Indeed, the acidity is mouth-watering and a perfect foil for current drinking with a hearty pasta dish.”—Michael Apstein, Wine Review Online 93 points!
