Lafage Nicolas Vieilles Vignes is a gorgeous red wine gem from the Roussillon wine region of southwestern France. The wine's official appellation is Cotes Catalanes IGP. Deep in this Catalan region of southwestern France, Domaine Lafage blends juicy, aromatic wines that deliver the rare combination of distinctiveness and affordability. Although only in his thirties, Jean-Marc Lafage already has over 15 years of world-class winemaking to his credit. The Lafage Estate covers 200 hectares near Perpignan, with spectacular views of the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees separating France and Spain.
“All Grenache brought up in demi–muids and aged on lees for 8 months, the medium ruby/purple hued color of the 2019 Cuvée Nicolas is followed by a killer bouquet of kirsch liqueur, savory spices, cured meats, and peppery garrigue. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and gorgeously textured, it has wonderful richness with no sensation of weight or heaviness. It’s another insane value from this team.”—Jeb Dunnuck, 95 points!
Lafage Nicolas is made from 100% old-vines Grenache farmed organically on vineyards 900-feet high. Medium-full in body, the wine is brilliant red in color with intense aromas and flavors of black currant, raspberry, cherry and blackberry. Aged for 6 months on its lees in older oak barrels, it is long and rewarding on the finish.
Enjoy Lafage Nicolas over the next 4-6 years with roast pork, cassoulet, grilled lamb chops, burgers and goat cheese.
