Description

Collio, Italy This Italian estate was founded in 1950 by Marco Felluga. Located in Gradisca d’Isonzo, a fortified citadel of the Venetian Republic, today Marco’s son Roberto runs the winery. Felluga controls over 250 acres of vineyards, most of which are family owned and operated, within the Collio. The vineyards are planted on layers of sandstone, limestone and clay at an elevation of 262 feet. Roberto employs integrated pest management in the vineyards to protect the environment. White wines are filtered before fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. A percentage of white and red wines are refined in wooden casks. The winemaker Rafaella Bruno employs the latest technologies, while respecting tradition. After destemming, the fruit was macerated on its skins and fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. The name Mongris comes from the contraction of "mono variety” and the Friulano word for pinot grigio, Gris. Pinot Grigio arrived in Friuli Venezia Giulia over 150 years ago, and is now considered an indigenous grape. Today, it is one of the region’s most widely planted white grapes.
