Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto is a beautiful single-vineyard red wine gem from the much heralded 2016 Brunello vintage. The Mastrojanni winery is in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, which lies in the southeast of the Montalcino municipality, a region well known for its wines produced from the Sangiovese grape. Gabriele Mastrojanni founded the winery in 1975 when he bought the San Pio and Loreto estates. The combined property now covers 96 hectares, 33 of which are planted with vines in a variety of soils. Seventeen hectares of these vines qualify for Brunello di Montalcino. Considered the king of Tuscan wines and one of the most renowned and long-lived red wines of Italy, Brunello is produced from a specific strain of Sangiovese (Sangiovese Grosso) grown in the unique microclimate surrounding the Tuscan town of Montalcino. Sustainable.

"The Vigna Loreto, located on the slope in front of the Mastrojanni winery, is the estate's showpiece vineyard, not only because it is positioned in full view of incoming visitors but also because of its ideal southeast-facing exposures. It is 1.58 hectares in size and has pebbles and tufo. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto (with 8,000 bottles produced) is awash in sunlight and Tuscan luminosity, resulting in a ripe and fruit-forward Brunello that never shies away in terms of richness or intensity. Indeed, the wine delivers a special level of power that transcends the bouquet and the palate, resulting in dark fruit, spice, leather, cured tobacco and rosemary essence. The tannins are firm but integrated and otherwise tucked into the ample flesh of the wine. Drink 2023-2045.”—Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, 97 points!
