Mazzi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Punta di Villa is a classic red wine gem made from the Veneto region in the northeast of Italy. This beautiful blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Molinara is the perfect red to enjoy with good friends over a rich meal. This estate is located on the hills of Negrar, one of the five municipalities of the historical area for the production of Valpolicella and Amarone wines within the province of Verona. The Mazzi family has a long tradition in viticulture and wine making (wine was produced here since the early 1900s) and in 1960 Roberto Mazzi, a trained agronomist, started bottling the wines of the vineyards standing on the hills of Calcarole, Castel, Poiega and Villa. The estate was initially called “Sanperetto” after the district where the farmstead was built in the 1800s. The two sons of Roberto, Antonio and Stefano, are now at the helm and continue the tradition of making excellent Valpolicella Classico, Amarone and Recioto della Valpolicella.
“The 2016 vintage offers more direct and precise fruit flavors that you taste here despite the air-drying process that defines Amarone. The Mazzi Roberto & Figli 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Punta di Villa offers an extra degree of complexity and depth that links this wine to this classic growing season. The blend is 65% Corvina, 5% Corvinone, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara, and the wine is submitted to 24 months of aging in barrique. The bouquet reveals dried cherry, baked blackberry, spice and grilled herb. The acidity is evident here, and compared to the Amarone Castel, the Punta di Villa shows less evident oak and more elegance as a result. This production of 9,000 bottles closes with cherry sweetness or cherry liqueur. Drink 2021-2035.”—Monica Larner, Wine Advocate 94 points!
