Napa Valley, California Wine Advocate 96 points! Very limited! Orin Swift Mercury Head is the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon from a gifted and fast-rising winemaker, Dave Phinney. Owner of Orin Swift Cellars, Dave Phinney has come a long way since beginning his winemaking career with 2 tons of purchased Zinfandel grapes just a year out of college in 1998! Following big successes with wines such as Papillon and The Prisoner, Phinney went on to launch new wines from all across the globe. Mercury Head is the slang term for the authentic Liberty Dime which serves as the wine's "front label." As a kid Dave Phinney collected these dimes. Years later, after getting one with some change, he was reminded how striking they are. "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Mercury Head has a deep garnet-purple color and needs a little swirling to unlock classic notes of ripe blackcurrants, warm plums and cedar chest with hints of wild sage, violets, Sichuan pepper and fallen leaves. The full-bodied palate has firm and grainy tannins with a lively backbone and tightly knit black fruits, finishing long and savory. 6,717 cases were made. Drink 2023-2043."
