Napa Valley, California Very limited! (Wine Advocate 93 points on the 2018 vintage!) Orin Swift Palermo is a gorgeous Napa Valley Cab from gifted winemaker Dave Phinney. Owner of Orin Swift Cellars, Dave Phinney has come a long way since beginning his winemaking career with 2 tons of purchased Zinfandel grapes just a year out of college in 1998! Following big successes with wines such as Papillon and The Prisoner, Phinney has launched several new labels in recent vintages, including Abstract and Palermo. Palermo Cabernet Sauvignon is made from the excess grapes purchased to blend Mercury Head and Papillon, so this wine is a tremendous value. A brooding red core with a rich cardinal hued rim, the wine opens with classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics—ripe cassis, sunburst raspberry, graphite and chaparral surrounded by a balanced frame of new oak. The bold aromatics translate onto the palate seamlessly with more cassis, red licorice, fresh fennel and mixed berry compote. Integrated yet prominent puckering tannins finish off the wine with a touch of lingering black tea.
