Description

South Australia Decanter 93 points! Paringa Shiraz is a beautiful red wine gem from Down Under. The Hickinbotham family has a longstanding history in the Australian wine industry beginning in 1936 when Alan Robb Hickinbotham established the famed Roseworthy Enology course at Roseworthy Agricultural College in South Australia. In 1972, Alan Robb and his son, David established their first vineyard together. In 1995, the Hickinbotham family purchased 1,760 acres in the Riverland. The Paringa vineyards are located near Renmark on the River Murray and cover approximately 800 acres. Today, David along with his wife and son, Alan Robb, named after his grandfather, manage and oversee all aspects of the vineyard and winemaking. "Winemaker Lindsay McCall's homage to Cote-Rotie: cool-climate Shiraz fermented with 5% Viognier and aged for a year in old barriques. It's juicy yet restrained with a violet perfume over the peppery wild berry fruit. Savoury, seductive and ageworthy."-Decanter, Nov 2018, 93 points! Paringa Shiraz is intense dark crimson red with black, squid-ink hues. Aromas of blackberry and black currants are contrasted with dusty, chocolate covered espresso beans. The palate is filled with black berries and dried fruit with subtle spice nuances of black pepper and cloves. The palate is well structured with good oak integration. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged 4 months with old French Never oak innerstaves. Enjoy Paringa Shiraz with roast loin of lamb, brisket, slow-cooked Texas BBQ, grilled vegetables and hard cheeses.
