Storchi Pozzoferrato Reggiano Rosso is a lightly sparkling (frizzante) dry red wine. The Storchi family has been producing wine since the end of WWll and the cellar was refurbished in 2001. Pozzoferrato is the ancient name of the district where the Storchi winery is located, in the Montecchio Emilia zone in Emilia Romagna. A méthode champenoise, wild yeast-fermented 'frizzante' made organically. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Hand harvested. Extremely low yields (it takes 1 1/2 vines to produce one bottle!) A single-vineyard wine. The soils are mostly clay with limestone and magnesium imparting nice minerality to the wine.
Storchi Pozzoferrato Reggiano Rosso is a blend of Ancellota, Lambrusco Maestri and Lambrusco Salamino. The wine is intense ruby red with a dense purple froth. It offers an impressive, vinous aroma reminiscent of violets and ripe raspberries and blackberries. On the palate it is dry, soft with pleasant tannins, full bodied with flavors of leather, blackberries and black olive, and a beautifully long finish.
Enjoy Storchi Pozzoferrato Reggiano with pizza, salami, pasta and aged cheeses.
