Tapiz Black Tears Malbec is a beautiful full-bodied red from Argentina. Tapiz is one of Argentina’s most technologically advanced wineries and boasts some of its finest and highest estate vineyards. These vineyards are located in Agrelo and the Uco Valley in Mendoza and in Cafayate, Salta with altitudes ranging from 3000 to 4600 feet. Flanked by the imposing Andes mountain range, these vineyards are subjected to unique bio-climatic characteristics, thus making it a unique terroir for winemaking.
In 2012, Tapiz winemaker Fabian Valenzuela was joined by the renowned Jean Claude Berrouet. Jean Claude is the recently retired winemaker of Petrus, having presided over 44 vintages at this revered Bordeaux winery. Tapiz is proud that Jean Claude chose to work exclusively with them in Argentina. Fabian and Jean Claude work together to create a beautiful tapiz (tapestry) between the wine’s unfiltered fruit and its oak aging. These full-bodied yet elegant wines have the acidity and complexity to drink on their own or complement food.
“The 2020 Malbec Black Tears comes from San Pablo in the Uco Valley. Aged for up to 18 months in French oak barrels, this deep purple-hued wine showcases red and black fruit with a balsamic, mountain herb layer, including menthol, laurel, orange peel and cedar notes. Dry, intense and juicy, it has a smooth, voluminous palate with a soft violet infusion. It's a cushioned Malbec with a plush, attractive texture.”—Vinous 95 points!
