Paso Cuello, Uruguay
Toscanin Tannat Reserve is an excellent introduction to the red wines of Uruguay, the home of Tannat! The history of Toscanini dates to 1894, when Don Juan Toscanini and his wife Dona Maria Bianchi left their native Genoa to settle in the Rio de la Plata region, 30km north of Montevideo. Don Juan Toscanini founded his own winery in 1908, producing 4,200 liters of wine that were marketed under the “La Fuente” brand.
The grapes of 100% Tannat that give rise to Toscanini Tannat Reserve have been selected from the best plots of the estate vineyard in Paso Cuello, Canelones, located near the Atlantic Ocean, in southern Uruguay. After a vinification where the maximum expressiveness of the grape was sought, it was aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months. Dark red color with violet hues. Complex and elegant nose, with aromas of ripe fruit, coffee and chocolate. On the palate it is unctuous, pleasant, with intense and rounded tannins.
Enjoy Toscanini Tannat Reserve over the next 5-7 years with steak, roast pork, beef empanadas and aged cheeses. The most traditional combination is with slowly cooked leg of lamb flavored with sage, mint, and garlic in olive oil.
