Wines of Illyria Plavac Mali is a premium dry red of 100% Plavac Mali from Herzegovina. In 2016, Indira Bayer founded Wines of Illyria, a wine import company dedicated to bringing wines from the Balkan peninsula to American consumers. Her goal was to create demand for Balkan wines in the U.S. which would in turn create jobs for unemployed youth in Bosnia-Herzegovina and other Balkan countries and stop the brain drain, one of the biggest issues these countries were facing at that time. In addition, Indira wanted to create a positive image of Bosnia-Herzegovina and the region plus add it to the list of the world’s well-known wine producing countries as its long history of wine making warrants it.

Wines of Illyria Plavac Mali is 100% Plavac Mali, the indigenous grape of the Dalmatian islands which thrives in Herzegovina (Her-tsuh-GOH-vee-nuh) and produces a dark red wine with blue reflections, rendering a purple color reminiscent of the royal robes of ancient Rome. The nose is pronounced, lasting and very complex; it reveals aromas of plums, figs and almonds, Mediterranean herbs and spices. Aged in Bosnian oak barrels for two years, aromas are further infused with wood scents. This wine exhibits softness, drinkability and complexity, and pairs well with red meats and spicy dishes. Many Italian restaurants pair it with red-sauce pastas. Vegan wine. 750ML ALC. 13.5% BY VOL.
